I just cast some boolits of ww alloy in my new Lee six cavity 175 gr. 40 cal. truncated cone style mould and found them to be out of round by .005" . They run from .402" to .408" dia. on the same boolit. When I size them in my Star's .4015" die they wipe lead to the nose, lube groove and also displace lead on the base. The area that they are larger is not at 90 degrees to the parting line but only a few degrees from the parting line. Also the parting line is off a little like the mould halves don't aline with each other perfectly. Sizing them takes a lot of effort too. I am thinking I will call Lee and see about sending them back as this is unacceptable to me. The really bad thing is that this mould drops boolits effortlessly only requiring a very light tap on the hinge pin some of the time.

What do you guys think, should I send it back to them?

mtgrs737,
After fixing three brand new Lee moulds, I decided enough was enough and sent the last two back. I will continue to buy Lee moulds, but am through being their quality control foreman.

A good friend told me the same thing, .005" out of round and a slight missmatch of the cavities is un-acceptable, I will call Lee in the morning and mail it back to them.

I don't ude their 6 cav molds. I prefer 1 or 2 cav. 1 cav takes longer but all the boolits are the same.

I'd send them back.

The larger the pile of 'returned under warranty' pile grows? I figure the more attention someone 'may' begin to notice something is WRONG.

I've just sent a Lyman 45 cal round nose mold back to Midway for same reason.
Bullets that were oval shape and undersize ( .449 ) near the parting line.
We don't have to accept poor quality!

If it isn't too late include some castings to say "see, this is the problem".
