I have a trash sack full of these things. Any body have any experience loading buckshot in them?
I load OO buck in AA's with good results. Tried to see if same recipe would work with blue hulls, no luck. I.D. seemed quite a bit smaller.

They are pretty similar, I can dig up some data if you like. The hulls are a bit stiffer, but use similar data and wads.

Thanks for the offer, sargenv, but I didn't see any data using the same wads I use on AA's. I just need to buy some that show to work.

From "The Handbook of Shotshell Reloading, by Kenneth W Cougar, Circa 1984

Peters Plastic Target Shell ("Blue Magic")

The Peters Target shell, formerly called "Blue Magic", is Remington's current target load. It is a very good hull for reloading and is generally available in all areas of the country. The internal capacity is close to that of the Double A hull, but there is enough of a diffrence that the powder manufacturers have developed separate data for each hull.

There are 8 pages of data for this hull. From 1 ounce up to 1.5 ounces of lead shot. I will list a few that I find comparable to AA's utilizing similar wads.

Since Buckshot was wanted, I will list several 1 1/8 ounce loads and a few 1 1/4 ounce loads from 1145-1330 fps.

1 1/8 ounce loads

Win 209 Primers
IMR 700X
Win AA12 wad

17.0 = 1140 fps - 9100 LUP
18.5 = 1205 fps - 10200 LUP
19.5 = 1240 fps - 10900 LUP

Same with CCI 209 Primer

18.5 = 1200 fps - 10100 LUP

Win 209 Primers
IMR PB
Win AA12 wad

20.0 = 1140 fps - 7500 LUP
21.5 = 1195 fps - 8100 LUP
23.0 = 1250 fps - 9400 LUP

Same with R12H wad

23.0 = 1250 fps - 9300 LUP

Win 209 Primers
IMR SR7625
Win AA12 wad

23.0 = 1145 fps - 6500 LUP
24.0 = 1200 fps - 7700 LUP
25.0 = 1255 fps - 8100 LUP

1 1/4 ounce loads

Win 209 Primer
Win AA12R (Red wad)
IMR SR7625 - 28.5 = 1325 fps - 10800 LUP

Fed 209 Primer
Win AA12F114
IMR 7625 - 24.5 = 1325 fps - 10800 LUP

Win 209 Primer
Win AA12R (Red wad)
32.0 SR 4756 - 1330 fps - 10100 LUP

Win 209 Primer
Win AA12F114
32.0 HS6 - 1254 fps - 9200 LUP
34.0 HS6 - 1339 fps - 10400 LUP

I have other loads with different wads and powders, if you have something specific in mind post the combination and I'll look if I have data for it. These loads above should give you a good idea about loads and wads..

I prefered the blue magic hulls over AA huls due to their better life expectancy, less tendancy to crack at the crimp, give a better crimp. I used the same 700X 18.5 load to shoot many rounds of skeet and trap, even ran a few straights when the Gods smiled on me.Robert

At one point I had far more blue magics than I did AA's but now it is the opposite. I don't like the Peters now since they have a bit more resistance (at least in the last few years) with unskived crimp areas.. and the wads don't like to seat too easily through my Grabber. As I remember before, they loaded nicely, but now the same hulls are a tad more work to load. I still have a few of the older RXP hulls around that I occasionally run into when loading the BM's.. and I usually load them the same since there are only a few of them. The newer STS hulls are really nice to load. I even prefer them to the AA's that I have a pretty large stock of, about 10 gallons.
