I just got finished casting up a bunch of 457-500 gr. bullets, I have good fillout, sharp corners, beautiful shiney boolits. However after about 3-4 minutes, as they cool they are turning grey and look almost frosted. The top of the melt is smooth and shiney when hot. Any ideas why they are changing from bright and shiney when they are hot to grey when they cool down? Out of ten bullets the lowest weighed 482 gr. the heaviest 484 gr. before sizing or checking, I am very happy with the variation. My alloy is 9lb ww---1 lb 50/50 solder.I'm open for suggestion.

Thanks, Stu

My C457-500 mold produces the same results as you have witnessed. I thought it had something to do with it being a large bullet and the way it cooled. My alloy is about 30:1 since I like it soft for the BPCR bullets I cast. The weight averaged 496-497 gr. and dropped at .458. Pretty bullet, but I have not been able to get it to shoot worth a darn in any of my 45-70's.
