Just found this old Ideal SC 358246 in some stuff I had back in a corner.
The mold is very clean and in good shape but I cannot find reference to it in my Cast Bullet Handbook(1973).
Anyone know the background and history of this #?

Its not listed in the OL' Buffalo chart in the stickies, either!

The IDEAL 358246 is a 147 gr. RN designed for the .38 Smith & Wesson.

Does it drop @ .358 or is it oversized approximating the .360 most say the 38 S&W needs?

I don't load 38 S&W, but maybe I need to try it and see what it comes out as.

An old Lyman Handbook of Cast Bullets shows this mold as (having been) made/available in two sizes---the regular one casting at .359 and an undersize version casting at ,357. The undersize one would be marked with a "U". They do not mention what alloy is used. The picture of the bullet shows that it is very similar to the present mold made by Lyman as #356242. LLS
