Best choice is 1680, either AA or surplus. That case is too big for 820. Better choice would be H110 , WW296, or 4227, but 1680 is best. Loading data all over the internet for it, or in loading manuals.

ddhotbot,

My lot of WC-820 is 47320. It was indicated to use H-110 data with it also. I am glad I didn't!!! My lot is the exact burning rate as AA#9. I have shot it side by side with AA#9 and the velocities are so close they are the same as far as I am concerned. I think my lot of WC-820 is AA#9 powder...Period. Start light and work your way to H-110 data. That might be a wise thing to do. Good-luck...BCB

They indicated and suggested using AA9 with my WC820.

Always assume AA9 speed with WC820, until proven otherwise using YOUR loads. ... felix

23 grains 2400 with a 240 grain boolit.....1373 fps

23 grains of MY lot of WC 820 1389 fps. Same boolit.

in an 8" 44 mag ruger Super Red Hawk.

They told me same as H110 too. Take your time and work up.

Hi Don,

First what are you shooting this in? That makes a big difference. I shot the 357 max in Ruger, Seville, Dan Wesson & T/C and all are different. AA #9 or wc820 will work, in most guns, I found that with a 180 grain bullet H4227 was most accurate. With a 200 grain bullet, in the Seville, WW296 and H110 worked best, brass trimmed to 1.450.

Work up your load slowly, because each gun is not capable of the same pressures. The Dan Wesson revolvers, I've found to especially touchy, and vary as much as 2 grains of powder in the amount that the gun can handle.

Good Luck, Be Safe,

Jon

MY OPINION for powders used in the maximum, in order of MY preference

My maximum is a full bull 15 inch encore from MGM. Set up for bipod use, with a full rifle forearm (had to ask to get the rifle screw spacing) 6 hole mount(Proably not necessary, but) It was created to comply with southern Michigans' straight walled pistol rule in the shotgun/mzlder/handgun zone. Basically a hand held rifle, I love it..

Recently made the top of the list, mo accurate & mo fps-- kicks a$$ in my 15 incher. My buckbuster load for the 185 grainer...
My dad gained 200 fps accurately in his Herret by switching from 4227 in his
j word loads.

#2 H-LilGun
Great Powder Load data slim, but can be worked up from other data (carefully) Great max powder...

#3 H-4227 My original favorite (suppose to be better in really cold weather)??

#4 H-110 Have not played with it a whole lot (will at some point though,,was given 8lbs of it.

#5 AA1680 ( I could not get the velocity I wanted with the 180 + boolits
( plumb run out of room)
