Does anybody here shoot a .25? Are they even worth casting for?

Heck, I don't even load for 380, much less .25. Those little cases are bound to be very hard to find in the grass after ejected from an autoloader. I expect you'd spend more time searching for your spent cases than you would spend casting and loading.

WORTH???
I have moulds and dies and the challenge is in the doing.
If you do not shoot much, then factory may suit you.
If the $$ of it is too much, then you may wish to cast and load.
It is all based on time and money.
Of course, I LIKE to reload and cast

Need to have the little lady load them. Can anyone REALLY feel those little things in your hands? Need magnifying glasses to even tell you are holding one! :kidding:

I've loaded them for quite a while but casting seems like a lot more work than I want for a calibre I don't shoot that much.

I have a lyman mold, lee dies, and about 2000 pcs of 25 acp brass.....just no gun to shoot. I would load for it if I ever find a good deal on an auto loader.

I reload and cast for the .25acp just like every other center fire pistol and rifle I have. Yes, its tiny to cast and size and reloading isn't any easier. Yes, I rarely shoot this caliber. But I can when ever I want to and don't have to worry about price or availability of components. Think how many reloads I can get with a 1.4 grain load from a pound of powder. 'Tis the frugal nature of the boolit caster.

I load .25 ACP some, not a lot, but never cast. Gotta be careful. A 0.1 gr increase in
powder is A LOT in a .25 ACP !

I'm in the same position, dies, mold, brass, but no .25 ACP pistol. I am waiting for the right deal on a Beretta 950. What I really want is a NAA Mini-Revolver in .25 ACP so I don't have to chase the brass.

Now THERE'S a great idea! I'd love to find one too! Or maybe a Ruger Bearcat in 25ACP or...

The Bearcat sounds good. I had a Beretta 25 for awhile. Killed some varmints with it and the Gold Dot. Real sights and a better trigger would have made things easier.

I always thought that a 25 built on a shortened hornet case
in a small revolver would be a good little small game getter.

I have never loaded for the 25 acp and do not own one at this time. I think a good 25 is a better option for self defense than a 22 RF if only due to more reliability. I had a couple of them years ago and liked how easy they were to carry 9mine were both baby colt Brownings. Six shots and they completely disappeared my my jacket pocket. I only fired factory ammo as I barly fired a box of ammo a year in them.

I would be in for a 25 acp revovler, there is a slight rim on the case so it would work! 4" barrel or long heck yea.

I killed a jackrabbit a few weeks ago with my Keltec 32 acp. The 25 with 35gr HP's would be more better for just that.

I cast (Lyman mold) and reload (RCBS steel dies that I only lube one in every 3 or 4) for the 25 auto. I bought a used Colt 1908 pocket auto for cheap and I can't come to grips at paying over $20 for 50 rounds. As others have said, the 25 is less finicky about ammo and case feeding. But in reality I shoot my Smith 61 escort (22LR) and Colt junior (22 short) more so I can just leave the cases lay. It takes a good eye to see the difference in empty 25 auto cases and 22 LR cases. The 22 LR escort is by far the more powerful of the 3 chamberings. I have hit 900 FPS with some 22 LR ammo, I only getting about 750 FPS with the 25 auto and 22 short.

When my wife had her Beretta I loaded over 1,000 rounds for her on my rockchucker, not as hard as most joke about! She sold it and bought a PPKS 380. Worth casting?? in my case yes!
Just look at the price of factory ammo! If you only shoot a box or two a year then I wouldn't invest in a mould..

My first sub-compact semi-auto was a Taurus PT22 bought in the early 90's. When I looked at the 25ACP vs. 22LR, I came to the conclusion that a bit higher effective muzzle energy, for much less cost was the case with the 22LR variant.

I do reload for the 32ACP though, and even developed my own cast boolit for it. These are through a Kel-Tec P32, and one can achieve almost twice the muzzle energy (from my chronograph testing) with this cartridge, over the 22LR in the PT22.

Given the the ability to acquire 22LR in mass quantity cheaply (for now), it made sense to me to not acquire the 25ACP caliber, tooling, and associated components.

But you never know. Sometimes I get the "wild hair" as they say, and may some day dive into the caliber for the sake of experimentation.

What type of velocity does a 22lr get out of the short barrel Taurus? Just wondering.

I reload and cast for the 25 acp, not at all hard to do, but not a cal. I shoot a lot. However if I want to I can and at a much cheaper price than factory! I have the RCBS mould and it cast very well.

When I was doing some comparison testing between the 22 lr, the 22 wrm and the 22 ccm I chronoed all in both revolver and rifle. What I got with standard lr hv 40gn loads was roughly 900 fp from 6" revolver and 1300 fps from rifle.
With the wrm I got 1300 fps from revolver and very close to 2000 fps from rifle.
A good comparison there is that the wrm in a revolver is equal to the lr in a rifle.
The 22 ccm would better the wrm by 100 fps in rifle and a slightly wider spread in revolver but with 50gn boolits instead of 40gn.
I just moments ago dispatched a second 250lb hog with the 22 ccm in a revolver.
Both with frontal heads shots dropped stone dead.
I did the same to finish a moose and when we ate the tongue we found the little 50gn boolit. Good penetration for a small caliber light boolit.

I checked my last chronograph data, and got 885 ft/s average from Winchester Super-X with 37 grain.

Same ammo out of a 10/22 gave 1160 ft/s.
