I am looking for a mold to create a mild plinking load that will shoot and cycle well in the 1894 Cowboy and also shoot well in a Ruger Super Blackhawk. At the moment, the Lee 429-200-RF is my first choice, but I wanted to ask on here before I purchased it. I also noticed that it is a .429 mold and I've heard that the 1894s have a slightly larger bore at around .431.

I use it in my three .44 Caliber pistols and a USRA 94 AE Carbine..it works nicely. The as cast diameter is .430~.431" with WW. I use a .431 sizer. It has a narrow crimp groove so I seat and then crimp seperately with a Lee TC die...just my preference. This bullet has been very accurate in all my guns with a variety of powders. I have to run the mold hot for good fill...this will smear lead on the sprue plate so I touch it to a water soaked rag every few bullet "dumps"... It is one fine bullet in the .44 Spl/Mag. I like the fact that it uses much less lead that the std .44 caliber bullets. and gives nothing up to accuracy.

Agreed, good plinker in my 1894, and SBH's. I size to .431 and get great accuracy and no leading. 231 and Unique work great.

Does it have to be sized or can it be fired as cast?
