On Thursday, April 22nd I sent Erik in OR my RCBS 2 cav., 35 cal. 200 gr. FN mold ( US Priority Mail ) . Today is Wednesday, April 28th, the mold arrived , all work completed. That is less than 7 days from the date I shipped to Erik , & the mold shipped back today . Impressive for Erik and the US Priority Mail system.

He was to remove the g/c shank in the rear cav. and HP the front cavity only and leave the g/c shank in that one.

The plain base was to be a solid bullet. The front cav. with the g/c shank left intact would get the HP treatment.

I wanted a rear base dia. on the " as cast bullet " on the plain base cavity of .362 - .363 ". As you can see Erik hit it " dead nuts on. "

The HP'ing he did really looks nice also. I can highly recommend Erik to you.

BTW.....My 358 Win., and my Ruger # 1, 35 Ack, 40 degree Improved will be getting a good work out with these bullets.

Final note : All these bullets will be tossed back into the pot tomorrow, the mold still has minor traces of oils in the cavities from the shipping process. I'll give the mold a good cleaning tomorrow and cast again looking for more complete drive band fill out.

Thanks,

Ben

Those are beautiful.
I have a copy of that mould un-altered. It does a fine job on deer with my Remington classic Whelen.
Very sweet shooting near 1800 FPS.

It has been said here before that this particular bullet may be the " most forgiving " of the .35 cal. rifle bullets. It seems to shoot well in many different .35 cal. cartridges. I have to work to find a load that doesn't shoot well in my 3 groove barrel, 358 Win. , Weatherby rifle with this bullet.

Ben,
I had Erik do exactly the same mods to my RCBS 200gr mold several months ago- I can see this being an extremely popular boolit with both the PB and HP mods- they've just got to work well!
Keep us posted on your loads, friend- I need some starting points for use in my 358Win Rem700 carbine, and I can't imagine any other person who I would rather copy! I so envy your successes and the groups you post are fantastic--
Please don't keep us waiting--
Thanks in advance from a lot of enthusiastic 358 shooters! We anxiously await your news-

I'm thinking this modified boolit will be just the ticket in my 35Rem as well--- don't you think?

358wcf :

You are very kind with your words. Yes, I'd think the plain base bullet would be right at home with the .35 Rem.

I am really looking forward to getting some nice bullets cast , sized , and lubed from this particular mold now.

I , like you, am going to really be surprised if these don't shoot well. Of course the plain base version will obviously have restricted speed limitations. What did the rear bases of your plain based bullets end up miking with your alloy? I shoot most of my .35 cal. bullets at .3595 dia., how about you ?

Sometimes , for me, with the recoil that 35 cal. rifles can generate, I often times welcome a few loads with reduced velocity ( and reduced recoil ).

I have a grandson that could benefit from some loads with the plain base version of this bullet. When he gets older and begins to want to shoot the 358 Win., I figure it might be a good idea to let him fire some of the plain based bullets at about 1,200 - 1,300 fps . I call those " confidence builders " for a 14 yr. old.

358wcf :

I finally got out today and shot some of the .35 cal. plain base bullets in my 358 Win.

I shot several groups like this today. While I'm certain that I can't win at Camp Perry with these loads. They are still accurate cheap shooting loads for my .358 Win. rifle.

Bore was mirror bright when the shooting ( 50 rds. today ) was finished today.
