Are hollowpoint boolits any harder to cast than SWC. I think I am on the list for sweeds group buy for a rg4 but found babore's 358446 which is the lyman mold that I want to upgrade. I like the idea of hollowpoints but am wondering if i need both.

HPs are no harder to cast but you must insert and remove the HP cavity pin for each bullet you cast which is a little slower. Given that, you can usually turn out 400 HPs or so in a morning's work once you get the mould up to temp and your fingers trainned./beagle

Unless you go with Cramer style molds. Then they are only slightly slower than non HP molds. My Cramer style Lyman 452374 wil turn out 215grHP @ 300+ an hour.

I've cast so many HP's now, I'd say that with a standard single cav. mold vs. a single cav. HP mold, In the same amount of time, I can cast about 25% more solids than I can HP's.

It isn't really all that much slower.

I have tried drilling the HP. Works well with the right alloy .It is slow compared with casting them, I made a few for hunting and experiment for self defence. i use 20-1 for 900 to 1200 fps and some 25-1 for under 900 fps. "Your results may vary. Results not tipical for all users"

Nothing to add -- using the spud HP it is slower but not so much -- after you figure our how to do it--I cut the sprue --turn the mold upside down and let the boolit and the spud and bullet fall --on to something soft-- the close the mold and re ensert the spud and pour again-- it is fun actually -- mine is a 410459 single cav done by Buckshot-- I also have a GB crammer mold and it is about as fast as any other double cav -- not taken game with any of them yet but will I hope this fall
