Is there any History of Paper Patch Metallic Cartridge for either Revolver, or, Automatics such as say, a Colt Model 1911?
At least the Chambering on a 1911 seems like it would oblige...but, would the transition from Cylinder Throat to Forcing Cone of a Revolver ruin or strip the Paper?

I have found that generally it is pointless to do that. The 45 ACP works fine at full power with naked lead bullets, so no need to paper patch it. Same way with revolvers, I have tried that and didn't see any advantage in full power 44 mag loads to make it worth doing. Now something like a Contender or Encore firing rifle cartridges, that is another matter.

Besides, it's tough to blow tube, or wipe between shots, with a 1911...and the cartridges are too short for grease cookies.

No....but I'm thinking strongly about necking my thermos jug down to a phonograph needle....and paper patching it!!

I have tried patching for hand guns and It does work, but Lubed lead works just as well. So why bother?

I used to paperpatch for 445 supermag. This allowed me to use pure lead for hunting loads. It worked quite well, never had any issues and no leading.

In my opinion (for what that may be worth) there is one very good reason to patch for your hand gun. Fun! To see that it works and when you do get it right you will have achieved something - it is very satisfying. (I wouldn't recommend patching for high volume shooting, though.
