View Full Version : Drill Rod Bushings
Is there any reason that drill rod bushings couldn't be used to draw down jackets to the size you need them? If you mount them in a sleeve and make the correct punch ... wouldn't they hold up and do a good job?
Just thought I would check before investing the time if it hasn't been done (I'm sure it has).

Yes there are a few of us that use bushings for a de-rimming die. Should work great to draw down as well.

+1 on the bushings. Made my first derimmer from one.

I have been thinking of using one to make a derimming die, thanks for letting me know it will work. It looks like that is what Corbin uses in his die.

I use a 7/32 bushing and 5mm drill rod for the punch

Sarg,
From all I have read they should work for draw dies. You will need to reconfigure the internal geometry a bit to get them to work. You may have to give a gentle slope on entrance with a short sizing section.
Please give update if you make a set.

Hello, Funny thing this post on drill bushings, just the other day I was inspecting some Lyman311008 I had cast. Must have been tired that day..I found alot of bullets with raised lump at sprew cut. Re-casting would be a pain, besides spring chores keeping me too busy at moment. What to do? Then I came across 8mm drill bushing. Bullets nice slip fit. Made up pusher rod & holding bushing in one hand, fine cut file used to flatten base. Worked great.
