Does anyone have any experience using RCE's or Corbin's bullet core casting mould? They look a little strange to me and I am wondering how well and fast they work.

Thanks

A few guys here have tried it and I dont know if anyone cared for it.

Something like a regular bullet mold design is much faster.

Ive seen a few guys drill out a regular bullet mold between the cavaties or drill out the backside of a mold.

Ive made up a few from scratch. The only bad part is you need to settle on a weight and do all the adjusting with the squirt die.

A mold like this (9 cores) piles em up pretty fast

...........I have a core mould from RCE, and it's a fine mould as it is. However I DID make a couple modifications to it.

Mine is a 5 cavity for casting .442" cores used to swage up slugs for paper patching in a 45 caliber longrange muzzle loading rifle.

The above 2 photos show the modification I did. These are nothing more then pieces of steel pallet banding straps. All they do is to securely clamp the mould blocks between the base plate and sprue plate a bit more consistently. There was no real issue before so it was only my need to 'tinker', or of a better idea:-)

I have one of eack kind. The aluminum hinged one does a very good job after it warms up. The one with the individual chambers---not so much.

Buy a Lee 6 cavity mold blank and drill your chambers to size! They cost $40.00 the last time I checked and are MUCH better than what Corbin offers. I own both.

I made a (10) cavity mold last weekend for making .250" diameter cores for my .308 boolits. I measured some cut 200g lead wire and it was just under 1.25" long. I then took two pieces of 3/4"x2" pieces of aluminum that were 6" long and clamped them together in a vise. Then proceeded to drill holes to match the cut lead wire and left 1/8" space between the cores and easily fit (10) cavities in the block. It all worked great and in no time had 150 cores sitting on the table.

I used some 1/2" round bar stock that are 6" long as the handles and used self tapping screws to affix them. My cutting plate was some angle iron that I measured and drilled to cover everything. It took about 4-5 hours to built it, but I think I could make another in 2 hours or less now that I have done it. The 200g cores are used to make 250g subsonic bullets for my 300 Whisper. I plan on making one for 120g and one for 160g cores so that I can make multiple weights easily. Bleeding off 10-15g of lead isn't that big of a deal and with since the extra just gets melted back down. In all I believe I had maybe $12 in materials in the mold.

I will post pictures when we get home from my daughters appointment.
