I've lost it again, bingeing. Ordered a .444 barrel mounted on my frame, waiting for that. Then I finally scored a used .243 barrel, working out the kinks there. Now I just bought a used .308 barrel, should have it in a week or so. Man these things are addictive. It's lucky for me I don't have a taste for expensive single shots. Now, my question; anybody shootin cbs in a H&R/NEF .308 Winchester? Mine is the regular sporter weight, ejector model. The seller has only shot 4-5 boxes of factory ammo in it, so it should be just about broken in nice. Success stories? Horror stories? Good loads? This barrel almost completes my wish list, still want a 7.62x39 and a 26" .280 Rem. (hint hint)

I've got the 30-06 & 7.62x39 shooting good with cast boolits, I don't see any reason why the 308 wouldn't shoot as well. Mine shoot great with the 311407 (7.62x39 - mold is an oversize group buy) & 311041 (30-06). I've got other boolits to try, but those did good enough for me.

BTW, you can't do without a 357 Mag/Max - there's a Handi-Law that says so.

Greybeards site has lots of info available if you have any problems. I've had accuracy issues with 22 Hornet, it was a barrel latch engagement problem - not enough latch engagement and only on one side. It really should have engagement all the way across the face of the latch.

Forearm fit can be another biggie for accuracy, if you suspect a poor fit causing problems, take it off, shoot a few rounds without it, if it improves, that's the reason.

Good luck with the new toys.

They are very addicting. Or so I've heard. :)

OBX, you're wrong, the Handi-Law says you have to have a .45-70. I think. Oh wait . . .

Put a small o-ring between the forearm and the screw and torque it the same each time.

My 38-55 was stringing vertically, 12" at 100 yds. An o-ring in the forend brought the groups to under 2". I thought the unwritten rule of Handi ownership was a .219 zipper.

It's true. Who am I kidding? There will always be one more barrel I need. I want them all!

I have an NEF handi in 30-06 I'll part with if anyone is interested. I'll toss in the scope too.

I have too many 30-06's as is, so this one goes.

I have a bull barrel handi in 308 and have gotten good results with the 311041 bullet and 14 gr of Unique. Sa far that is the only cast load I have tried.

My affliction is that I want Handi Rifle barrels in calibers that the factory doesn't offer... So feeding my affliction gets expensive.

They are addictive. I already have several and almost walked out of a gun shop last week with a .38-55 BC with an additional .357 barrel. Just couldn't justify it as I just made a deal on a Springfield 1911.

I've only tried four cast boolits in my .308 barrel. I have Lee's c309-150F, the Lee C309-170F, Lee C309-200R and the Ranch Dog tlc 310?311? 165F. I'm VERY pleased with the Ranch Dog tlc 165F. The load I use in MY rifle may not be the best for yours. I suggest working up to the load that works best in your rifle and stopping there. My load may not be safe in your rifle. Use at YOUR own risk. So much for the disclaimer, my load is 30.5 grains of IMR 4895 with the three lighter boolits. I usually just use the Lee 2.2 dipper for charging my cases. My scale shows the 2.2 dipper to be right at 30.5 grains. My first two .30-30 barrels were rechambered to other calibers before ever firing a .30-30. I finally bought a used .30-30 barrel just to have one and I am VERY glad I did.

I have a std weight brl and a heavy brl 308. Both shoot 314299 and 30 gr Varget very well. Have only shot cast in both and the std brl shot right out of the box. The heavy blr took about 50 rds before it shot well.

Tom, what did you rechamber those 30-30s to? Have it done or do it yourself? I'm considering something like that for a fun project.
