I stopped in at my local pawn/FFL to set up a transfer on a six gun and found a gorgeous Savage 99e in .308 with a mint bore/crown calling my name for $150! The kid behind the counter had just taken it in and I just took it home. I have been looking for a .308 for shooting cast for about a year now. This one was too good to pass up. I also found a great deal on a Colt python at the same store. I have the Colt on hold until my wife calms down a little bit... Pictures will be posted shortly.

Good on you! I think my 99C 308 went out the door for 275.00 and it's worth 10x that much to me.

That is a great deal! I had a good day as well. I have had a 338WM Ruger No1B, which is a lovely rifle, but I really wanted open sights so that I could compete in Big Game Rifle Competition as well as use as a scoped Sambar rifle. A mate had a Tropical 338 made in 1988 (maybe it's a Medium Sporter, same set up). I bought it and made a phone call and sold the 1B straight away. I have ended up with what I wanted and I am only $30 out of pocket for the permit. I'm really pleased and it is a great match for my 416Rigby Troppo rifle. We've both had a winner of a day. How much was the Snake gun? A couple of classic American guns there.

Nice to hear that you had a good day down under! Now onto the Python...

Well, the kid from the pawn shop tried telling it was a first year(1955) Python and that even with the big gouge in the rear steel that it was a high dollar gun. Even after I questioned the silver medallions on the grips(originals would have been gold) and told him that the early python grips would have been checkered up to the hammer, he maintained that the gouged gun was at least an $800 side arm being an original.

Then, I flipped open the cylinder to see a serial number of 36XXX VV which I knew damned well wasn't a 1955 gun. Hell, it isn't even a 1975 gun. That six gun was born in 1984 and had some cosmetic(and grip) issues. I offered him $350 cash to own it as a shooter and I think he is going to bite. Hopefully he calls tonight.

I even gave him Colt's telephone number to verify my dating of the snake. I think I might have a new side job as a pawn shop gun appraiser..

+1.
last Friday I looked a two 99's in a gunshop. The were both 22 HiPower, and both were really badly rusted, and the "cheap" one was $350.00!!!!!.
