View Full Version : Can I use this in lube?

At my work we have a large calibration department that checks all our precision tools and thread guages. When the thread guages come back they are coated in a green waxy coating over the threads to protect them. We usually just peel it off and throw it away but I was wondering if it could be used to make bullet lube. I though I had read on here before what it was but I couldn't find it when I searched. Any thoughts on what this stuff is and if I can use it?

I suspect that the protective coating you're talking about is a softer version of the same Performix synthetic rubber-based material used for dipping/coating tool handles. If that is correct, then it would not seem like a promising candidate for bullet lube.

Buy, hey, you can always try it and see how it works. Good luck. :drinks:

Find out what it is from the calibration people, then make your decision.
