I wanted to shoot my 30/40 sporter last week and was rummaging though my cast boolit supply and found some leftover 130 grain RCBS spire points designed for the M1 carbine and SKS. I found that I could just engrave the rifling if they were seated just a hair above the gas check. I had 30 boolits to mess with so I loaded 3 groups of 10 with 2400.
The first group with 17 grains measured 2.500" @ 100yards....10 shots...no real group.
The second group with 18 grains measured 2.300" @ 100 yards.......10 shots......7 in 1.100".
The third group with 19 grains measured 1.890" @ 100 yards.......10 shots.....7 in
1.000".
I was more than pleasantly surprised with the last two groups considering that I was shootin a boolit probably 50 to 70 grains lighter than what the rifle was designed for.
Soon as it cools off (if it ever will) I'll cast some more and experiment further!
