A lot of guys here have mentioned that when using 300 gr or heavier bullets in there Ruger 45's that they had to get a higher front site to get there revolver sighted in correctly.

Did this cause a problem when shooting lighter bullet weights in the 250/280 gr area with the higher front sight?

Where did you get your higher front sight for the Ruger 45?

lot depends on the lowest velocity at which you're shooting heaviest bullets and fastest you'd be shooting the lighter bullets. heavy/slow requires highest front sight, mid range weights/high velocity would shoot within range of a lot of front sight blades. if the gun's blue, you'll need a higher base/blade unit which is readily available at brownells. if stainless, you've got more options.
ruger makes a high blade for ss guns-again at brownells, or you could get on bowen website and buy a blank or two and set them up specifically for your gun, your eyes, your hold, range, weight and velocity parameters. i've done the latter and filed up a patridge style blade of adequate height to shoot heavy slow at lowest rear sight setting with bowen rough country sight. works to perfection and still has range to shoot 255/280/290gr at about 1050fps within easy adjustment of rear sight. that sight also has different rear blades available to really customize the fit and both front sight and rear are easily changed within a few minutes. but again, if blue, it's either a full ramp/blade assy or off to the smith for a wiegand base/blades or something similar that will give your some flexibility.

If it is a SS Ruger than you can order it direct from Ruger.
