Was talking with a friend, out of work machinist, and since I have a Lathe and Vertical Mill, I asked if he wanted to use them to earn some money. Talk got around to casting and custom molds. So wondering what is needed.

Thanks,

Sam :D

A lathe and a mill like you said, an indexing device that takes 5C collets would be nice to cut the flutes but not absolutely needed. An acetalene torch set to heat it for hardening, again not absolutely needed you could do it with charcoal or woodfire. A dremel tool or stones to sharpen the cherry once hardened.

Is one link.
Another portion of this is the mold itself.
For that I'd reccommend PMing theperfesser and getting a link to a paper he has written. Very informative.
