Gentlemen, as promised, here is the report about .308 cast bullet at 1700 fps for hunting wildgoats.
I used a Lyman #31141 cast from an alloy very close to Lyman's n.2, weighting 170 gr. at 1700 fps, pleasantly accurate from my rifle - 3 shot groups around 1.5"- 2"@ 100 yds.
I shot an old billy with impressive horns and beard at 100yd+ (maybe up to115) and made a chest hit. The goat staggered a couple of yards, turned around and fell. When I got there, it was as dead as a stone. The bullet passed through both lungs and severed the big vessels at the top of the heart. The wounds at the lungs were not appreciably different from those from JSP 168 gr. factory loads, but less wide. Haemorrhage was massive, and blood occupied the whole chest cavity.
A convincing and, up to a point, surprising performance.

Cool, huh? Pretty much my experience with various sized animals, and cast bullets, over the years.

Can't wait to do that with my .358 Winchester. I think a coyote's on the hit list next..

You gonna fix some mutton stew?

Pat, my past experience with old goats, doesn't indicate any real good eating from him!

Get some onion and cilantro with some hot salsa, and marinate the old geezer for couple days first in tenderizer..

After marinating the goat for two days, eat the onion and cilantro salsa mixed with a good steak and bury the goat in your neighbors yard :) :)

It's not the toughness, it's the smell!

Rather cannabalistic, eh? The "old goat" eating the old goat! That would be the case with my 1st mother in law.......

Boys, no kiddin'. Ol' goats must be seasoned with ground pepper and salt for at least a week, at a suitable temperature. Makes a sort of soft jerky. Then marinate for 2 days, no economy on onions and garlic. Aftger that, a stove-lid stew or venison chilli is in order!
And in case of a failure, ther's always a mother-in-law for these emergencies...

Africa.....I don't smoke but I sure use to smoke a cigar when I skinned wolves and sometimes male foxes certain times of the year....but I don't even think a cigar would help with a billy!......

Actually, you can cook them the same as emus, slowly in stock with a few rocks on the bottom. When the rocks are edible, throw the goat away and eat the rocks. MIck :-)

4fingermick's recipe goes quite well with coffee Texas style:
:coffee: Put half a gallon of water to boil. Add 3 pounds of ground coffee. Let it boil for an hour. Throw in a horseshoe. If the horseshoe does not sink, coffee is ready to drink.

Coyotes and old bull elk in mid or late rut qualify as stinkers too.
