Well we had a rifle shoot at the range today and all the kids brought out their AR's. We had one shoot where we had to turn the target backwards and shoot three shots rest at 100 yards the three closest to center would detremine the winner. Well there were groans agan when i pulled out the Krag but the howls were heard when I posted a 3 shot group of 1 1/4" at 100 yards and all the shots were less than 1 1/4" from dead center. The kids think that somehow I am cheating by shooting cast bullets in a 100 year old rifle! The best group posted with the AR's was 4" with 1 shot inside 1" from center.

Good shooting! Good for you showing up the "Plastic Guns"! I get about the same reception as you get when I show up with my Krag.Robert

Every Krag I've ever owned shot way beyond expectations. One of the most accurate bolt guns our military ever adopted.

And, a Krag will never go "BOING" in your ear whern fired, like an AR, either !

A little experience is big helper too. In the 90's just for easy credit I took some ROTC classes while going to college. One day we got to shoot some ARs. Range was ridiculous, about 25yds, though we were shooting full power ball. I wound up with a sub dime size group, the kids were all over and sometimes off the paper. But I'm going to take one of my Krags to some local matches soon and see what I encounter here in IN. Ought to be fun.

The Krag is amazingly accurate for a 120 year old design. Mine does not do so well with .308 jacketed bullets as it has an over-sized bore. Properly sized cast bullets (.312 in mine) shoot very well. I keep intending to try .303 Brit J-word bullets in it, but just haven't got round to it.

The hole high left in the target is a J word slug from the FAL shooting next to me. The Krag and cast loads has droped more than a few deer also with a 220 RNFP at 1950fps. That load is good for deer out to over 200 yards although most all my shots are inside 100 yards. I havent shot a jacketed slug from a Krag in almost 20 years now.

The feature I seem to get the most devilish glee out of with my Krag is the fact I can load and be shooting again while they are still jambing their wee little cartridges into their magazine!Robert

Years ago I had fun shooting those pesky little ground squirles that left dirt mounds and holes all over my horse pasture. Hitting a varmint about four inches tall standing and only an inch wide at a hundred yards with iron sights from a sitting position was easy with my Krag shooting Sierra 110 hp's on top of a case full of 4064, MV close to 3000fps. That's the same Krag in the 'Cast Pic' thread. I plan to use it in the Milsurp Postal Match, also. My bullet of choice will probably be my 311284 Lyman. It may take a while to work up the right load for the 100 yd bench event but that's where the fun is.

Are you shooting at the back side of the target or just measuring it that way?

Shootng at the back of the target to get the guys use to not having a definate aiming point. The front is used for scoring only.
