If someone were to start making jackets for common calibers, what range of wall and base thicknesses would you all consider to be useful???

Kent it all depends on what the bullet will be intended for ,hunting bullets for deer size and up would work good with a tappered jacket maybe around .025" at the base
.I make my target bullets about .018 3/4 of the way up and .0135 at the tip that works good for me.
Varmint bullets will be thiner like .017 to .010 .
I think if you had 3 sizes you shoul be good between .025 and .017 for most aplications.

Straight wall jackets or tapered?

Generally pistol jackets are about .015" thick.

Larger rifle calibers maybe .025" to .030". Thicker for the real big calibers for dangerous game.

Also you have to consider the velocity range if they are for big game hunting. Take a bullet made for the 30-30 Winchester and shoot it out of a 300 Winchester magnum at a deer at 50 yards and it will blow up like a varmint bullet.
