have had the same dilemma I have pails of brass that I scrounge from the range and I usually recycle the 40's and the 9mm ( well I do save a couple of hundred of the best ) and we kind of trade at the junk yard brass for linotype. the guys know me and save the printers lead for me

I've gotten a decent price on ebay for 40s before, 9mm goes to scrap, atleast until I get a 9.

If it's just one big bucket, I'd sell it for scrap. If it was already sorted I'd sell it on eBay.

People sell .22rf brass on ebay. Call it “Vintage” that should jack up the price, and add about a $25 shipping and handling charge.

I'm surprised no one else has suggested this, but why don't you just leave it at the range for another shooter who might need it.

That was my thought too....

At my range there's a couple of buckets for collecting brass that gets sold for scrap once they fill up. Of course it's alright to help yourself to something you "need" but otherwise it's "range property" IMO....

At the range were I'm a volunteer RO, nobody else reloads. I take all the centerfire and try to distribute the stuff that i don't use. The scrap dealer up here is a real bandit so we try not to do buisness with him.

This wasn't a public range, or a gun club. Training site. And the RO said if you want the can you can have it. Because it was going in to the "Green dumbster":drinks:
So I took it!

Well we certianly wouldn't want good brass to go to waste, and if that's where it was going, you were certianly justified in rescueing it.

I belong to a couple of ranges, and there always seems to be one guy who swoops in and grabs all the brass before any of the reloaders can get it. Next thing you know he's talking about how much he made from the recyling center, and the other shooter are swearing under their breath. I say take what you need, and leave the rest for others.....and if no one needs it let the range sell it to help cover operating costs. Same goes for lead.

..............Two weeks ago at the range, Larry who is one of the Burrito shooters was talking to a Redlands cop (Larry also volunteers at the Redlands PD). Larry turned and asked me laughing if I had a use for three 55 gal barrels full of pistol brass. I said, "WHAT!". The cop (Steve I think was his name) said down in their basement range they have these 3 barrels full and they need to get rid of them.

I have no use for the barrels full of probably 9mm, 40 S&W, and who knows whatelse. Likely no 45-70, 45-90, or 7x57 in there anyway.

I said to Larry, isn't there an Explorer scout troop at the PD and he said yes. I suggested they go through the barrels and sort and bag it by calibers and sell it. They figured that was a good idea as the Explorers were always needing money for something or other.

Seemed obvious to me :-)

I bought a half of a 55 gal drum of brass a couple of years ago. Glad it was only a half of a barrel. I would have gotten the whole thing but two of us could not even begin to move it! It took HOURS to sort all that brass. Something like 15 or 20 hrs. Not real good for the back. I have bunches of 9mm, .40, and .45 now. Interestingly there probably wasn't 200 .38's and .357's in the whole bunch.

There's guys on here wanting 9's, I just sent a box full to each of them.

Lefty Red and Kenmungo or whatever it is. Check them out.

Wish I had the .40's.
