I tried a few loads of 2400 behind the RCBS 145 SIL Boolit last evening using Winchester WLP primers.

All groups are 10 shots

15.8 grains ......... 1.885"
16.2 grains ......... 1.372"
16.6 grains ......... 1.381"
17.0 grains ......... .833"

Range was 100 yards.

PISTOL primers, ?? I take it that you tried Rifle primers and the pistol primers worked best ??
DAMN, another reason to go to the range;
16.0 2400 & rifle primers vs 17.0 2400 and pistol primers

Norma started production of 308 cases with the small primer cavity AND fire hole. Should be ideal cases for our application. Correction: Laupa, not Norma, and the cases are called the PALMA version. They are match ready, and they won't be cheap, but well worth it. ... felix

Herb, what twist is your barrel ? I'm take a 98 reciever & barrel to my 'smith tomorrow with a 1 in 91/2 to install. You results look very interesting.

It's a 1 in 9 1/4 Douglas air gage on a commercial FN action, I had it built in the early 80's before the caliber was a commercial round.

Good stuff. I need to blow the dust off of my 7mm08 and start tinkering with it again. Been feeding it soupcan boolits over 16 grains of 2400. Haven't done any real load development though. I'll be watching your results closely.
Thanks,
Dan

I don't know about others, bu I typically always yse pistol primers in my cast boolit loads. In a couple of instances the rifle primer worked better, but seldom had as goo a result as I did with LP or SP primers.

It became a commercial round in 1980.

Checked my receipts...it was 1978. My smith was trying to convince me to build a 7 IHMSA instead.

That's more like it. Sako had a 7mm-08 out in the first part of the 80's, I know because I bought one. It didn't take them long to chamber that caliber after it's introduction.
