How deap can a bullet be seated. (depends on how much weight is in the nose...)(excatly, but how about a number/ measurement?)

anyway, I took a few 230 BD acps and seated them deap in increments until I started getting a bulge, then measured it to get an idea of what base deapth would still funtion in a 45 acp.
I have a Star PD, AMT Longslide hardballer and M-98 16" barrel to test in.
I tried some WW, R-P and TZZ 87 and 93 cases.
I thought the TZZ Israeli military cases would be the worst as they have the least case capacity. They ended up being the best for deap seating a bullet.
The 230 BD acp is .6" long with a square base. The cases are .9" ish
The chamber on my Star PD is about .478" ID, the M-98 is .477", I didn't take the AMT down to measure it.
with the WW case, I seated it to 1.12"-and got a bulge ring of .471", 1.098-.473, 1.07-.474, 1.04-.476, 1.02-.478 and it didn't chamber on the last one.
So I could have the base in the case about .460" and still have it function.
R-P case, 1.07-.476", 1.04-.478 NO-GO I should do again and get more readings in between.
TZZ 87 case, 1.1-.4705", 1.068-.472, 1.035-.474, 1.02- .475, 1.004-.476, .990-.477, .980-.478 NO-GO
TZZ 93, 1.018-.476, 1.00-.478 NO-GO

So with the TZZ 87 cases I can have the base of the bullet about .510" in the case and still have it chamber.
Next thought, existing 45 bullet molds with a gas check. Now I can just measure to the bottom of the bottom drive band?
I have the Lee C452-300 RF that is .763" long and .65" to the bottom of the drive band. When seated to 1.225 OAL it would just fit in the magazine. Almost to the top crimp groove. Next I'll have to see how it shoots without a gascheck?
I also have a MM 340gn 90% nose that is .833" long and .730" to the bottom drive band. When seated to 1.19" it will fit the magazine and feed fine.

Now I'll have to spend some time with quickload and order a heavier recoil spring for the AMT. I don't think I'll even try pushing the Star PD with the aluminum frame and all.

The first issue I had with my old Star PD was the recoil buffer would tear apart after about 400 to 500 rounds of ball ammo. They were five bucks apiece.

Then the steel pin (that the slide release lever butts up against) stripped out of the alloy frame. The pin was found & replaced by a local 'smith, stripped out again at the second shot, lost this time, replaced by the 'smith, and the gun sold. (I was honest about it with the guy who bought this pistol, he wanted it anyway.)

It was accurate though, gave me nose size groups at fifty feet with ball.

I should have just bought a snub K frame back then.. Today, we have several good 1911 snubs.

I don't intend to shoot anything hot or heavy in the Star. I was thinking mostly about useing it for concealed carry on road trips instead of my Makarov. I'll probably feed it win 230 SXTs.

I sighted it in the other day with some Speer 185 JHP loads and it seems to shoot real well. It will even feed those 340gn 90% nose slugs from my MM mould. Not shooting, just load the mag and let the slide go from the slide release.
