During easter this year, I decided to get a step ahead of my shooting by casting up some boolits. I recently started shooting IPSC which demands an obscene amount of ammo. So I thought I'd spend my easter casting instead of watching tv or any other unproductive thing.

I cast for 9mm, and 38/357. I find rotating 3 molds works the best for me. When casting fast 2 molds tend to get too hot, but 3 is just right. They are 3-cav iron molds by the way. During 3 casting sessions I managed to produce 115lbs of boolits . With the boolits I cast it amounts to about 7000 boolits! So for me this easter has been a very productive one.

Anybody else use their holidays for casting?

Sure did. I cast close to 200 lbs of boolits last week, now awaits the fun job of sizing them.

Range Day on Saturday.

Cleaned up the grounds, New wood on the backers, modifications to the plate range, general repair and maintenance.

Because of the Easter Holiday, participation was down.
A little casting that afternoon.

I cast some 452-230 RN after casting some 457-230 RN by mistake. I got the Lee mould for my ROA and cast about 200 ww boolits before I realized my mistake. I think they will be too hard for the ROA, so may try them in 45-70, or just melt them down. I cast about 600 of the 452-230 using a 2 cav. mould. I then cast 100 460-350RD. I experimented with various methods and finally got this Lee surplus mould to drop .459 with good fill out by pressure casting with a lower temp. I then cast 100 358-150SWC with a RCBS mould I traded for. This mould needs some serious Leementing and further flattening of the sprue plate before sending it to Buckshot for hollowpointing. The sprue plate was bent when I got it, and I've helped it but need to do more to stop finning of the bases. Late Sunday the wind died enough to let me test some 22 Hornet rounds and some 480 Ruger.

I cast a thousand 313249 boolits using a single cavity mold, slow and tedious but beautiful boolits and 800 452460 boolits, also slow and tedious, but beautiful boolits. I love the old SC molds, as the boolits are all perfect copies, but TEDIOUS!!!!!!!! Did I mention time consuming?
