I'm looking for load data for the RCBS 45-270 SAA. I'm wanting to load it for a COLT SAA. Anyone have a good place to start?

My experiences are primarily with the Ruger, however, I have some lower pressure loads.

Good favorites are 8.5gr. of Unique and 20gr. of H4227. HS-6 works well with this bullet in all my guns. I'd start out at 8gr., and not go over 950fps. That must be somewhere around 11gr. in my gun. I'd be cautious in anything over 10gr. in yours.

I've also primarily used this bullet in Ruger sixguns but I agree with Dr. A on the HS-6. I think a starting load of 10 grains of Blue Dot, working up to 12.0 or so max will prove satisfactory. Around 6.0 grains tite group should likewise be good.

I use 9 gr. of Hodgdon Universal under that bullet in a Smith Mountain Gun for 910 fps ave. The bullets weigh 285 gr. and this is about as warm as I'd care to go in my gun. Accuracy is very good.

I have loaded this bullet with from 6.5gr of Unique, up to 24grs of H110 in MY Rugers, this bullet shoots great no matter what the speed. My standard everyday kicking around and shooting at the range load is 8.5gr of Unique, probably a bit warm for a SAA. Will look around and see if I can find Dave Scovill's article on this bullet, IIRC it has some load data for SAAs, as they are his favorite shooters.
