I finally got my .357 Marlin Model 94 Cowboy out of layaway yesterday. I am glad I took everyones advice and spent the extra 150.00 and got the Cowboy octogon barrel. Sportsmens Whse only had 1 display left locally . Salesman said that they have really been selling the Marlins since people have found out about the plant moving. He did not know when he would be able to get anymore Cowboy's in. He said alot of customers are under the impression that they are going to go outside the US to make them. I told him it was my understanding that they are just going to the Remington plant in the next state. I hate rumors !!
Anyway, I just got back from the range and it shoots straight. Really accurate up to 100yds. I was using 6.0 Unique under a RN 158 grn boolit. No feeding problems at all with .357 or .38 spl. Next I will try 158 SWC in it. Thanks to all that twisted my arm to get the Cowboy !:drinks:

Congratulations on what your fellow Idahoan, John Taffin, says is the third most useful firearm you will own...the first two being a 22 long rifle lever gun and a 22 long rifle pistol.

Glenn Fryxell has an excellent article on 1894 MARLINS at lasc.us. Lots of data and load information on 357-44-45 Colt caliber rifles.

Conventional wisdom on loading is harder alloy, gas check, larger diameter and higher velocity. The NOE 180 WFN has worked well in my rifles. Prior to that, I used LYMAN 358665 and 358156 with good results. If you tinker with overall cartridge length, you can get your rifle to feed d*** near any boolit.

Enjoy

I have been having a ball with my Marlin 94. Found I still had about 500 .44Mag PMC cases so I cut them all back to .44Spl. Been loading a commercial 200gr RNFP over 10gr of AP100 in the .44Spl for an easy, accurate and fun load. I am waiting on parst for my Dillon so I can load them quicker.

I got mine slightly used several years back; it's a fun rifle, perfect match for the Blackhawk and the Smith & Wesson. It was the pre-safety model and already had a Williams peep sight and sling swivels on it, didn't have to do anything but shoot it. Handles both .38 Special and .357 Magnum equally well.
