Need a route from east coast to west coast and around the circumference of the country for drop off points....Plus a retired truck driver having access to a flatbed for a week or two. ... felix

Makes my 700lbs look paltry. But at least it doesn't require much smelting. (getting it into my 10# Lee pot is another issue...)

Anybody back East got a Truck & Garage space?

There's a little over 4000 pounds on each pallet . I live within 3 hours of the place. I'd be up for a complete pallet if I can figure out how to transport that much myself. Possibly even two whole pallets now that I think about it .

I'm in for some if someone over there can finangle this. I don't cast a lot, so 1000lbs should suit.

(let's see, at 45lbs/bx, $8.50/bx USPS.... hmmm... 23 days and $200 for shipping that brings it back to .20/lb in shipping costs. Lead is a good deal at .50/lb right?)

I would be willing to drive to a location where a truck would be coming through on either I-94 or such.

Pick up a ton to help lighten the load. :)

If your bullet weight average comes to 200 grains. I could be 70,000 bullets to the ton. That would keep me shooting for the rest of my life. But I know many of you shoot a lot more than I do.

Is my math right? They say its worth $1.28 pound?
Yes I know that is just so much talk and a guild is all.
Or maybe I should say what they gave for it shipping
and all.
We should be able to rent a Truck and driver for about
$2.00 a mile right? Just have drops along the way.
May be $2.50 with all the drops

I'd be in for a ton or two, but Virginia to Oregon is a bit long of a road trip.

They want an end use certificate if you buy it. What is that and where do you get one?

I'm in for 1000-2000 lbs if a truck is coming anywhere near Michigan (I-94).

I would love a few thousand pounds but that would require that road trip to Alaska again

One of those lots was at Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland. We have guys going there all the time from my office in California. I wonder how much they'd carry in their baggage each trip on the airliner. . .

An end users cert. is a signed statement on what you're going to do with the item in the bid. Some of the PIA ones are the munitions related items like gun mounts or once fired brass. It use to be so easy to do gov't auctions now everything is regulated.

Usually the local junk dealers nab these type bids as they have the heavy equipment and facilities needed to handle all that material. BTW I'd be in for some if you drop at S. Ga/N. Fla.

Just to let you fellers in on something:

I lined up a shipper....cheaper than you think.......$1200 from maryland to KY.

Checked the London metals market....sorta like Wall Street...going price was .43 cents pound.

I called a local scrapper...offered me .25 cents.

Then some sucker makes a $10,750 bid? he knows something the rest of us don't. You may say...well, the cost of lead from a foundry is X dollars. True enough, but unless you are a high volume consumer or your scrap yard is next door to the base....the logisitics and expense hammer your profit level into the dirt real quick.

I confess, I was going to buy it, rake off what I needed and what might sell to shooters and junk the rest...for what might have been a handsome profit. **** happens!

Jump,
Take your 'ol John Deere up there to haul it off!

My guess is someone local bought it. 38K lbs of lead is a hell of a lot of bullets.

Hey Jumptrap you did what you could..........Creeker

Sometimes it stinks to be right. :(

It was probably won by a local. They snipe these things and with the volume involved still come out in the green, er, I mean black. What you need to do is get within 5-10% of the scrap value as your highest bid and stick by your guns, or is that gun lead? Thing is you only get a few weeks notice that the item is up for bid and that makes it difficult for a group. Best if one entity goes in and bids, wins, and then divies up the goods. MHO, but what do I know, I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn last night.

My guess is that it went for keels. Plenty of boat builders in that area.
