I have used a Marlin Cowboy 30-30 to take the last few deer and shot one in 38-55 to take a couple more. Took one or two with a Winchester 94. Don't know **** about the new Mossberg. I have found Marlins to be about as nice a lever in that category as any I have used. After using a Winchester, I thought that my first Marlin did not chamber a round it was that much smoother. Down side is that the 94's I played with were not at all fussy about the cast bullet combinations while I had a microgooved 45-70 that did not do as well (I admit I might do better if I had it now). The Ballard rifling in the Cowboy is not fussy either. Don't know **** about the Mossberg. Micro grooves can shoot cast but seem to require a little toying. My last few deer were shot with a heavy cast bullet driven at about 1900 fps. That load was not really anything I had to work on as it was a first try and worked. Just airing a few thoughts.
