Locally I can only get Goex Fg, FFg, and FFFg. Lately I have been reading some good things about Goex Cartridge. I have a trip coming up where I will going through Arkansas and thought about stopping at Powder Inc in Clarksville.

How does Goex Cartridge compare to FFg and FFFg in cartridges say .45 colt and .40-65 and .45-70 rifle cartridges?

In the 40-65 and 45-70 it gives a bit less velocity than 2f. Haven't tried it in the colt so can't give a definet answer but I'ld imagine it would shoot slower there as well.
It does/can deliver some very good accuracy, with very managable fouling.

People have reported here, and elsewhere, that the granulation size of Cartridge is much more consistent than other Goex Powders. That is consistent with my experience using it and other granulations, too.

I order from powder.inc I can't buy real black powder in San Diego county. Reason I like powder inc is I can order 5 pounds at a time. Which works well for me.

I have been using Goex Cowboy in all pistol calibers with good results - also know of many old west shootes doing the same.

I think that Goex Cartridge is more comparable to Swiss 1.5 F, it should be good to use in the rifle calibers. I have been using Goex Cartridge in my 12 and 10 ga cartridge loads with very good results.

I have used GOEX cartridge for some time and like it as it burns cleaner and seams to be a bit more consistent than GOEX FFG. However, I do not use it for anything except long range loads due to its extra cost though it is cheaper than Swiss powder by a good deal.

I use Cartridge, never have bought anything else.
But, I have some loads from another guy that are filled with FFg...and a larger charge than I use.
They seem to be a bit easier on the shoulder.

I have been using Goex Cartridge for about 18 months now. When compared to Goex 2F it is better in accuracy and it burns cleaner. If you look at it under a microscope which I have, it is more uniform and seems to have stayed in the corning process longer which is why it is an all around better powder. I have some 45-70 loaded with Goex Cartridge and some with Swiss 1 1/2 to compare. My recent health issues have put that on hold.

What is the difference between Goex Cartridge and Goex Cowboy?

Cowboy is designed for use with cartridges using 40 gr or less charges, they say that charges over 40 grs will cause heavy fouling.
Cartridge is designed for use primarily in cartridges, and it does a very good job with very managable fouling. Velocity might be a little slower than 2f express, but it is capable of very good accuracy.

Another Goex Cartridge grade fan here. I use a lot in 45-70's and 45 colt as well. Swiss is faster in the colt, but the difference is not worth the price.

I will also tell you that cowboy is a mix of grades. I know this from fact and not rumors It contains 3F, 2F and a light dusting of 4F. My teacher on BP is Bill Knight and he did a screening of the cowboy mix. I'm not sure but I think that John Boy did the same. And as I said before the Cartridge has more time in the corning process which makes each kernel more uniform. Look at a slide with something like 3FA on it and you will see all different shapes and sizes. BP burns and the more uniform the grains the better the burning process. The more uneven and misshapen it is the longer and slower it will burn which gives ragtag results. If you look at Swiss 2f and then Goex 2F you will see that the Swiss has smaller grains that are much more uniform in size and shape. I am not saying to buy Swiss as I shoot the Goex Cartridge but just making a comparison.

I drive to the next state to get Goex 3f for my flintlock.
It works great in the 45-70 also.
I tired Pyrodex RS, and gave it away.
