Been using the RCBS 165 Sil. with 14 grains of unique or 16 grains of 2400 in the K-31. Groups are great.....only way to the right of my P.O.A. with the front sight partially hanging out of the dovetail (no more adjustment).

Sights did a similar thing with reduced loads and J-bullets, corrected with hotter loads.

So looking for higher speed load with L-Boolits, or recommendations for replacement sights/scope mounts.

I can get the Eagan MX3-30AR up to 2450fps with no leading, but I'll have to pull one that I saved from my last range trip to see what the powder charge was (gotta start keeping better notes). The boolit's pretty similar to the sillywet you're shooting, cast in a high tin alloy, basically a lead-based babbitt. Oh, now I remember, it was 49.6gr RL19! Accuracy was pretty good too. I only took 6 to the range with me that day to chronograph. The group was a bit larger than I got with the NOE K31 bullet, shown on this thread: http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?t=61977&page=5 The one out to the left on the NOE group was a round I fed from the magazine, it shaved the tip of the bullet. I think Richard Lee has it right with using slow powder vs fast burning pistol powders when it comes to getting the velocity up.

The K31 is way fun to shoot after hanging a scope on it with one of the clamp-on mounts - it's a good investment !

I've been using H4198 in Berdan brass with PMC/Murom primers and the Group Buy Lee-made clone of the RCBS 165 Silhouette, and I'm not seeing any change in windage from GP11. I'm also seeing excellent accuracy.

St. Marie Clamp on Scope Mount. Works great, and you can adjust the scope to correct for the extreme right POI.

NuJudge, So how much H4198? whats your guess on velocity?.

311291 and 18.0 of Blue dot works pretty good for me. I still have the front sight drifted to the right a little.

My best loads have been in reformed WW 284Win cases F210 primers Saeco #315 sized .310" and 2 groooves lubed with LBT Blue over 21-22gr AA5744. I've shot these with excellent results all the way to 385m (turkeys on the silhouette range).

Both of my K31's like the Lee C312-155, the Lyman 311466 and 311413 sized .309 over 8-9 Red Dot or 10-11 Unique. A rainbow trajectory but darn accurate.

870TC;

In loading my K31 I soon noted that the case is pretty darn close to the 7.62x51 in capacity.

I then went to The Cast Bullet Association's "TFS" publication and looked for match-winning loads with the 7.62x51.

I chose 29 grains Varget and the RCBS 30-165-SIL and have never looked back ~ wonderful stuff.

Good evening,

As long as your using 2400 try 20 grains of 2400 and that bullet. It shoots very well in my K31.

.308 150 GR. HDY SP, Hodgdon H4895, Overall length 2.790"
40.0 gr. 2484 fps
42.0 gr. 2578 fps

This is what I have in my book for the loads I make for my brother. 2" - 3" at 100 yards is what he gets with iron sights and that's more than good enough for him. His other gun is a Win 94 30-30 and gets 5" - 6" groups and I have known him to only miss one deer with it since 1968.

Cast bullets impacting further to the right than their high-speed jacketed counterparts has been quite typical in my experience. In the particular K-31 with which I shoot High Power, I mounted a Redfield Palma which of course gave me a sight of fantastic quality and a means by which to deal with windage issues. It did, however, require drilling and tapping the rear receiver ring. If your interested in how I did it, here's the thread: http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?t=81659
The other option is one of the clamp on aperture sights. Problem with them is they're quite pricey.

I'm very new here... Just about to start casting. My furnace should be here Monday [smilie=w:

I was just planning on casting and loading match rounds for my 1911, but I LOOOOOOOOVE my K31, and can't WAIT to try some o' these loads... Especially the one with Varget... Already use it in reloading for my AR (not with cast... YET!).

I think I'm gonna like it here...

My normal load is the 22gr AA5744 under the 175gr Saeco #315, but the last time out I tried some 200gr Lee c309-200R(?) over the same powder charge, and the POI moved left about 1-1/2" at 50 yards compared to the 175gr Saeco.

xs650, That's my preferred load as well.
