Which were the top 3 brands of M1 carbines

I'm looking at list, theres so many. I'd like to pick one thats a nice maker.

Have a Winchester purchased thru DCM in the '60s and an Inland just purchased from CMP....Winchester had been rebuilt at Red River Army Ammuntion Depot in Texarkana (I bought it from the second owner)....Inland was a Rack Grade from CMP...had the Inland stock refinished and it is my shooter. Winchester is almost too nice to shoot. Inland made more than anyone and the rack grades at CMP are a real good deal....

I'd have to say Winchester, Rock-Ola, and National Postal Meter.

Here's a listing of the various manufacturers (http://www.fulton-armory.com/M1Carbine.htm) and the number of carbines they produced.

For "shootability", I haven't heard much difference between manufacturers. You might like having one from a computer company, a Juke Box, company, etc. which makes the Carbine special.

I have an Underwood that hasn't given me any problems and they were the 3rd largest producer with 545,000+ made.

Around here the "computer company" ones are more $$$. I have an Inland, but I don't think it matters...

Really doesn't matter as far as reliability and "quality" go, although Underwood did have a good reputation for their barrels. They all swapped and sub-contracted parts, and after WWII most became "mix-masters". I would say, just get a nice one...As long as it's G.I.

Now that would be a good project for some collector. Take one of each that had a good bore, use the same ammo and run 20 rounds through each.
I only have an Inland of 1945 make and it always seemd to be within the acceptable military parameters.

The best made are the late Inlands. They made the most and did the best work toward the end of production. BUT The best barrels were Underwoods. They were button rifled rather than cut like the other barrels.

I sold Inland it was pretty worn and got an IBM from the CMP cause working with computers is what I do all day long.
