Anyone shot these? I acquired a mold, it's a nominally 200 grain flat nose with a beveled base. I was told it was a very heavy for caliber bullet for loading in .38 revolvers. I was wondering how it might perform in .35 caliber rifles.

Good morning
If this is for the real short 38īs (S&W COLT) then yes there will not be much velocity as we see FPS today. BUT if cast with 40-1 then it sure will put a thump on a critter if you smack it in some bones. Black powder was the first loadings in the 38īs so the largest chunk of lead was utilized to get some good penetration and hurt on target.
The origonal 38 Special was loaded with a 200 grain. 4 grains of Unique and you have a real handful in a 5 shot revolver ... even a Colt Police Positive will jump about... 800 fps is about the safe velocity smaller frame Specials will attain. Medium frame 38īs rated for +P can get to near 900 fps with CAREFULL loading. Either load will hurt any critter real bad especially if bones are struck.
In 357 you finally have enough case space to get some thing cooking. Lots of 200 meter steel rams have been thumped down with authority using slower powders like 296 and 4227. The Dan Wesson 357 have a bit longer cylinders and this gives that bit more space with a long seated boolit in a 38 case.
So sure .. the 38īs will shoot a 200 grainer... It all started with Black Powder.
35 rifles... unless I was gopher hunting a 200 grainer would be right nice. That is right in the middle of 35 rifle spectrum of good usable boolits.

Will that beveled base present leading problems? I've never loaded any but it just looks like it would set conditions for gas cutting and leading.

Does anyone have a 35875 (358075) they would like to sell ? :)

Jerry, I have one, but haven't cast any with it yet. I have no interest in it as a revolver bullet, really, so if it doesn't work out well in .35 Whelen and/or .35 Remington, it may be up for sale. I'll keep you posted once I've cast a batch or two.

Mind of I be nosy and ask what you want to shoot it in?

richhodg66,
I don't shoot 35875 but am very happy hunting with the RCBS 35 200 FP bullet in 35 whelen.
I tried the 358009 lyman it shoots well. but the 200 grainer shoots just as good and has killed ever deer I ever directed one at.
The bevel base will likley be useful only in very light loads, but that is what ground squirrels are for.

Thank you for the response !

I thought I would machine off the bevel base and experiment in .357MAX !

Before I knew enough to worry about beveled bases, I started loading 158 SWCBBs for grouse and rabbit loads in .35 rifles - many rounds (great plinker, too), some game, and no problems.

Accelerating a BB to velocities that'll give you foot pounds adequate for bigger game? If I had your mold, I'd try it with the slowest powder practical and see whether it got me a good load or a bad cleaning job.

I've used the 358009, the Saeco 245 grain and the 200 grain RCBS in my 2 .358 Winchesters. I came to same conclusion, all three shot good, the 200 killed everything, so I decided to just use it .
