Whats a mild load for this? All I have is range pickup of unknown wear so I don't want to have a blowout. Preferably using red dot, bullseye, or hp38.

8gr of Unique is what I use for the lee rnfp, drops them right at 212-214grains

I use the Lee 210 WC for light .44 loads. Shoot both pistol and rifle (single shot). Seated normally for the pistol, I found 3.5 Bull the best. Seated well out for the rifle I found 4 Bull the best load. Shoots ragged holes at 35 yards. That is using Alox for lube and CCI standard primers.
For a bit stouter load, but still seems mild, I use 8.5 Unique with the Lyman 429421 cast with alox and CCI primers.

With that bullet weight I'd say 7.5 grains of HP-38 or 6 grains of Bullseye or Red Dot.

I've used the 7.5 gr/231 load with 250 grain Keith SWCs with good results, and same with 6 gr/Clays and the same bullet. Clays is pretty close in burn rate to Bullseye and Red Dot, so the same charge weight should work okay with them as well, although I have to admit I've never tried that load with either of those powders.

Sheepdog I use 6 grains Red Dot for a 240 grain boolit. For a 214 gr boolit you could go 5-6 for a pleasant load. Haven't tried the other two for light loads in the .44 Mag...Ray

I loaded some 44 special cases with a 200 gr WC and 4.5 gr of HP-38. Very , very mild load. Not sure you could go this light with 44 mag cases. It was also quite sooty.

i have been useing a saeco # 420 a 200 gr tc bullet for at least 15 years. i had excellent results with 5.5 gr of BE or tightgroup for 800fps and 7.0 gr of BE or tightgroup for about 980 fps and 13 gr hs6 for 1250 fps. loaded in 44 mag cases and std fed lpp. these loads shoot excellent out of my 4, 44 mags

Good morning
The old Lyman 1973 book shows 5 grains of Bullseye as the start... pressure was so low they did not publise it.. 765 FPS from a 6.5 barrel. That is the velocity of the 44 Russian which is a Real fine up close load. At 25 yards you can watch the boolit fly to the target. Use SOFT cast for best results and closly match the cylinder throats... .001+ oversize is real good.
Next time you have some spare powder money.. get some Unique.. you will not regret it for GREAT revolver loads.

Clays for light loads and it's clean.

Unique for medium lighter loads.

HS-6 for a medium field load.

These powders serve me very well with lead in the medium to light area of loading.

Nobody seems to be using much Trail Boss. I like 6 grs of TB with that bullet in 44 mag cases and 4 grs of TB in 44spl cases.

My 6, formerly 8 44 mags all loved 6 grs of unique. that is 6 revolvers, and two carbines. that is also a load from alliant for cowboy shooting for the 44 mag cases.

Okie, have you shot any of those in a Ruger .44 auto ? May have to cut the spring back to make them cycle in the semi-auto.
