What about using paint thinner and just keeping it submerged in something like that. Mineral Spirtes, Acetone, something easier then oil to get off the silly thing....

SOme like Kroil, say it actually works as a release agenty. I just spray w/ Brownellls mold release & then hit it w/ degreaser rpior to casting. Seems to work fine.

But Kroil is not a rust inhibitor. Does it work like one for a mold kept in a dry place?

WD-40 for short term. I don't use anything but I am in a very dry climate. You could use a goldenrod or some desicant.

The freezer provides a very dry climate also. :)

I kroil mine, then leave them in a ziplock bag. They are still well oiled when I pull them out and wipe them down.

I give mine a going over with Militec-1 for storage and when I want to use them give them a squirt with dish washing liquid and swirl in boiling water for a few minutes.

At Admiral Byrds first station in the Antartic the original gear is in first rate condition, no rust or degrading at all. Low temp and low humidity. Put in plastic bag, place in freezer, when you take it out keep in bag until it reachs room temp.

50 Cal ammo can with a good seal, add a desicant pack or VIP paper. Apply a light coat of midway mold prep to the OUTSIDE only
NO RUST, EVER, been storing my molds like that for 30 years.

I liberaly wipe with Kroil, and wrap with Saran wrap or any other plastic wrap. Store it in the original case until next time.

Put in an ammo box with a military dessicant pack.

For really short term, I leave bullets cast in the mold, spru intact, & just spray the outside w/ mold release or WD40 or LPS. I have yet to have a cav rust this way, even if I don't get back t a mold for a year or so. Then again, I am 15-20m from the coast & pretty low humidity.

Second that on the WD-40. I've been using WD-40 on my Hensley & Gibbs moulds for years. Easy to apply and easier to remove. Hot water combined with Dawn Dishwashing detergent and elbow grease makes the mould ready for work in as little as 5 minutes.
