In my ranges scrap I found what appears to be a 45/70 and a 30 caliber set of projectiles with dum-dum split (is 4 quarters) rounded back like a hollow point. Appears to be all one alloy, either copper or brass.

Sounds like a Branes X-Bullet

Though not as common as lead based bullets, solid copper bullets have been used for years. I agree it is almost certainly a Barnes

I tried then in the early 90's. I recovered one from a 308 [165 gr] after 54" of moose. I shot several head of game but that one was the only recovered bullet.

This is what i carry in my HK P2000sk Corbon dpx 100% copper. This is one of the bullets i was able to find in the burm. Its expensive, almost 2.00 a round But it did exactly what it was suppose to do. Imagine this twisting as it enters a body. It will shread everything it touches!
