Hi,

Can someone point me to the best thread about annealing cases? I want to do the 9mm cases to use for 40 Cal jackets per another thread.

Thanks

Not sure I can point you to a particular thread. Brass starts annealing at 650 degrees, and is fully annealed when it reaches 750 degrees (Fahrenheit).

You don't have to hold it at that temperature to cause the annealing. And, you also don't have to allow it to cool at any slow kind of rate.

So, any way that you can get it to at least 650 degrees, 700 is better (which is way beyond the abilities of your home oven), is fine.

I did some in my wood stove, but the results were not repeatable due to the dramatic range of temperatures in there. I actually melted some brass at one point.

Some guys are stacking brass into a 20 pound bottom pour pot (doesn't have to be bottom pour), and cranking up the temp. That gets it to where it needs to be. You could dump the brass right into a bucket of water to cool, without harming the brass in any way. Using that method, you could process a LOT of brass in short order.

Be sure to keep any annealed brass totally separate from your shooting brass, since annealed brass will burst if loaded.

I clean my annealed brass with some IOSSO brass cleaner, rinsing after cleaning. Does a great job.

You can get that here, and other places:

There's also this product, which I have tried, and works great:
Surface Cleanse Neutral (No alkaline)

They're happy to send you a free sample of the concentrate:

So, hope that helps get you going.
