Thanks Aaron

As far as I know the 110 does have the lock nut.

Yes, as long as the shank diameter is the same. Savage switched shank size in the past few years; I'm not up to speed on the exact sizes, so I can't comment on that.

There are two sizes:

Small shank

Large shank

The large shank was in response to the short fat magnums offered by Winchester and Remington.

You can find large shank barrels in non fat magnum chamberings as well. And in the early days of the short fat magnums .... there were no large shanks ..... so there are some small shanked short fat magnum barrels out there too.

But as the original posters question ....... Savage and Stevens barrels interchange if the shank size is the same.

I need to add that the Ultramagnums also use large shanked barrels.

i beleive the marlins have the same thread on the barrels as well. i've read so on other boards, but have not seen it myself.

Yes and the Marlin 308 Win rifles have a 1-12" twist which I'd prefer over the Savage 1-10" twist.

If you're looking at the higher priced Savage rifles you may want to look at the ER Shaw rifles built on Savage actions with a huge variety of calibers and any barrel profile and length you want.

Stevens rifles will all be small shank. It's not all that cheap a rout to by a Stevens then put a barrel and stock on it. You can about buy the ER Shaw rilfes or a Win M70.

Yes, but the Marlin and Savage barrels are NOT interchangeable! The Marlin bolt face is 0.015" deeper than the Savage,so if you try to put a Savage barrel on a Marlin action the breech face will bottom out on the bolt face before the headspace gauge bottoms, creating grossly excessive headspace.

If you want to use a Savage barrel on the Marlin action you'll need someone to turn about 0.015" off the breech face. I know this from firsthand experience.
