So, I decided to be a little Revolutionary this 4th and finish smelting the Church Roof lead sheets I had laying around.

Last time I used a hotplate and skillet. Worked OK, but it took me about 5 hours to do 50lbs. :coffee:

This time I tried somthing different.

Cheap propane burner and my little 5lb ladle.

One pound of propane and Less than 3 hours later I had 50 1-lb ingots. THe fire wrapped right nicely up the side of the ladle and made things nice & hot - much better than the skillet.

Think Small... :)

you need a turkey frier and a cheap dutch oven

Only if I want to also buy more ingot mounds and completely take over my condo.

No, the little 4-banger Lyman ingot mold and 5lb ladle work fine for me. When it's cooking, I can just keep up with the ingot mold melting in that little Lodge ladle.

Any more/bigger equipment & I wouldn't be able to do it on my back deck. (that little shelf is fireproof, the rest isn't)

Besides, making Lead Soup is one of the few things I do to relax, so 3hrs & 50lbs is just about right.
