I am new to this forum and have enjoyed reading the posts for several days now. Years back I used to shoot a 1911 Schmidt-Rubin. I still have the rifle and have decided to start shooting it again. I will be using a long bore-ride bullet and trying to get about 1800-1900 fps. The barrel on this rifle is 30.7 inches long and was wondering which of the Whitelabellube lubes would be best for this long of barrel? I have heard of the barrel being too long for the amount of lube in the grooves of the bullet..........................Ray

You didn't mention what boolit you are using and how many grooves it has, depth of groove etc. I use BAC in all of my loads rifle and pistol, but it is not impossible to find a boolit/barrel combination that just doesn't work regardless of the loob used unless you drive the boolit at extremely low velocity.

I use their 2500+ for all loads over 2000fps.

No leading so far, and I'm moving 30-30 closer to 2200fps. (20in barrel tho)

I'm using Carnuba Red in my 71 Mauser, the barrel is 32.5" long. The Lyman 43 Mauser bullet I am using has very generous lube grooves so holds alot of lube.

Have not chronographed it but should be around 1,300 to 1,400 fps. No leading at all.

Carnuba Red would be my choice for velocities over 17-1800 fps. It will require a little heat on the lubesizer to make it flow well. In the summer in my garage the heat is solar, but hard to regulate.

you'll have to work with the viscosity of your lube.
you won't run out of lube you'll quit pushing the lube outwards and sealing the bbl.
i'd work with a softer lube or soften up the lube i have on hand a bit.
i use a form of b,a,c, with lanolin in my longer bbls.
and will be trying a moly, lithium, carnuba this summer.

In a 24" GI .30-'06 barrel I've pushed a 175gr bore riding bullet to 2200 fps, with no sign of Leading, using 50/50 lube. I believe any of Lars lubes would do fine for you.

I have no experience with cast bullets in 1911 rifles, but a lot with them in the K31. You might want to ask down below what bullets people have had success with in the 1911 long rifle. The Swiss chambers have some peculiarities.

Thanks so much for all your inputs! I will be probably shooting the 180 gr. Lee mostly. I also have the NEI 195308 and a few other .30 molds to work with. From what I can gather the 5744 looks like the powder of choice for many shooters. I used to shoot high-power with this rifle. I have mounted a Lyman 48 on the back and a Lyman annular globe on the front. I haven't fired it in about 25 years, so it will be like meeting an old friend again.......................Ray
