Went to a new range in Okeechobee yesterday and spent some quality time with a couple rifles. Shot some cast thru my FR8 in a attempt to get it sighted in. Also used my chrony to see what the cast loads were running at. Average velocity was 1750 fps. The loads tested were not of my making. I got 400 rounds of these from a local dealer who knows I'll use them. The bullet looks similar to a Lyman 173 grain
Flat nose. They are gas checked and had 20-21 grains of a fine stick powder which I believe is alliant 2400 (older stuff). No leading at all and clean-up was short and sweet. Group size was 1.5-2 inches at 50 yards which is good with my 45 year old eyes. I hope to duplicate this load eventually, probably with a 185 lee mold that I have unless I can find a Lyman flat nose mold in 173 or heavier weight.

I just won one of these rifles on GunBroker. Waiting for it to be shipped is killing me!

I feel your pain jrayborn. I love mine as it shoots well with Cast or J-words. Front sight adjustment is a bit of a pain as the sight is offset to provide both windage and elevation adjustment. Make sure you have the sight tool and a jewelers screwdriver. Loosen the lock screw on the front of the sight assembly before you adjust the sight or you'll strip the threads on the sight. Hopefully it will be right on.

Shhhhh! Hush up, guys. You're letting the cat out of the bag.

REPEAT AFTER ME: "Those old junk Spanish Mausers are made out of recycled Bud cans. I wouldn't shoot one on a bet!" Or let's try: "I wouldn't touch one of those FR-8s. Mere contact with one can give you AIDS!" My favorite is: "Well, if you load for it down to air rifle specs, it might not blow up...but do you really want to chance it?"

C'mon, guys! These rifles are already hanging at around the $400 level. Do you REALLY want to see them get more expensive by letting everyone know just how great they are???

Best regards

Love my FR8 too. I am always on the prowl for a second one if the price is right, i.e. insanely cheap.

Mine is a great shooter with both boolits and j-word projectiles. Mine has a long throat and bullets need to be set way out for best accuracy. I have been working with my NOE 311-165 RD boolit. I am getting groups around 1 1/4" at 50yds for 10 shots using Reloader 7. I have just started working them up but its looking good. It also likes the Lyman 311359 w/gc with 10 gr of Unique. I just seat the bullet to the top of the bottom band. This shoots 1 1/2" groups all day long. With J=words it shoots 1 1/2" groups at 100yds with 150 gr bullets. Mine also shoots a lot better if you take the bayonet lug/cleaning kit tube of the barrel. I bought mine about 16 years ago for $119 at Roses dept store. Have fun with your FR8.

Anybody know of the source for a front sight adjustment tool for the FR-8? Mine is shooting about 4.5 inches left of center at 50 yards. :(

Try Sarco. Your FR8 (like mine) will use the same sight adjustment tool as a CETME

Mine adores the RCBS 30-180FN and 13.0 Red Dot.

I have an FR-7, and a friend just bought the FR-8, both shoot great. Wish I could find another.
