I cleaned my father in laws garage out recently and found about 200 lbs. of pure lead. (Good find , I shoot alot of muzzle loaders). My question is about a long bar of lead that says 60/40 on it. it weighs 1 lb, is it 60% lead or 60% tin? Thanks

It's probably solder and I think 60 tin 40 lead. Is it about a foot long, 1/2 inch wide?? They used to use this for auto body repair before Bondo and I'm sure other uses.

Definately 60% tin 40% lead common solder close to the eutectic point.

You have to love it when a good find just falls in your lap. I mentioned to a friend of mine that I wanted to start casting my own bullets and he asked me if I wanted a bucket of range lead. He works weekends at an indoor range and the lead he gave me was about 2/3 cast bullets and 1/3 jacketed. I wound up with 69 pounds of ingots when I was done. When I told him how well it worked he made me an offer, melt bullets into ingots and give him half back. He had four more full buckets, the first one had 120 pounds and I have three buckets to go. That's over 300 pounds of lead for me. :bigsmyl2:
