Lyman 314299 problem?

I just got a new Lyman 314299. What should this be dropping at? I'm geting .3125 with #2. I figured that the 314 part ment the mould would drop at least 314. Am I wrong or did I get another Lyman gem?

Yes 314 is the designator that it should drop there but it isn't all that common that it be a little over or under. If you wait and measure again in a week it should be about a .001 more. If they use their mould cherrys too long as they wear down, the cavity will be too small.

Has anyone had success getting Lyman to refund a mould?

I sent a Lyman 314299 back to them because it was .003 out of round. They replaced it, no questions ask. The new mold was round but the two cavities were different sizes. One was a 311299 and the other was 314299 or at least that is what the measurments were.
Good luck I don't buy new Lyman molds any more

My 314299 is close. .3135 body, .302 nose. Mine is for a .308 '06 bore and a .3095 Krag bore.

I had a 311299 that dropped at .310 with a .298 nose. It would turn in the muzzle of the '06.
Not what I needed in a bore rider.
If I could get a .311 mold that dropped a .300 or better still a .301 nose with a .311 body, I'd be happy as a clam.

I got a new one a few years back (2001?) and it casts small too. I can get them up to .312-.315 (on the same bullet!) by shimming the mould with a few strips of aluminum tape. Yes, moulds made with those cherries should have been downgraded to 311299.

I borrowed one to try ~ it cast 0.303" nose and 0.312" body.

I bought one and it cast 0.303" nose and 0.313" body. I lapped it to get 0.305" nose and 0.315" body. It works well now in my 0.314" groove .303 Brit barrel.

I also just picked up one of the NOE 316299's on the group buy which is beautiful and casts perfectly. I haven't gotten to shoo them yet... but soon!

I just picked up one of the NOE 311299 .311" Body .300" Nose so far cleaned it and did the heat treat four times, now waiting to cast some.

I spoke with five different people at Lyman this morning, and they pretty much all told me to go do something not so nice to myself. My current feelings for Lyman can't be posted on this forum.

I had purchaced this from Graf's so I figured I try them. Much to my delight, they gave me a return authorization and are refunding my cash. I'll then forward that to NOE. At least I know I'll be getting some good quality and QC.

Cudos to Grafs, it wasn't your place to make it right, but you did. Lyman won't even make right their own mess up.

Do not wait too long on the NOE moulds, let them know that you want one NOW! or you will have to wait for the next run and who knows when that will be.

I've sent a couple back to Lyman and they re-cut the cavities.
Address is buried on their web site.

Might try to get a few usable one cast up out of it first since it will be gone for a couple months.

RCBS seams to simply replace the mold. I've at least half dozed Saeco moulds here that are sub standard that I should have sent back. Got to love modern manufacturing methods.
