Other than Marlin, who else makes them.
Not taking anything away from Marlin, I was just woundering who else made them. And does anyone have any dealings with said different rifle.

Thanks

Winchester used to make the "Big Bore Timber" carbine in 444, but the 94 is no mo. At least for the present. I'm not sure if Browning ever offered it in their butt-ugly BLR or not.

H&R makes a 444 Handi Rifle.

I sent my receiver in and had the 'almost' fit it to the frame. I say 'almost' because it had so little engagement of the locking latch in contact, I wouldn't shoot it & stoned it to a better fit.

The barrel slugged .430" and has a 1in20" twist. It shoots .432" "Fat-Wide-44s" 290g boolits very well. I only push it to 1800fps with H4895 powder.

But, ... since Marlin makes barrels for H&R (or did at the time), not sure if you'd call it a different manufacturer. It's not a microgroove and it's not a lever gun.

I bought a H&R Handi Rifle in 444 annd shot quite a few jacketed bullets in it with good results . Never did shoot cast though .

Eventually sold it because of lack of use !

Had a couple of the Winchester 94 Big Bore 444's in my hands but never owned or shot one !

Thompson Center makes barrels for them in pistol and rifle length .

Also "Magnum Research" makes the "BFR" which is a single action revolver . Never had one of these either . But I have heard good things about them .

My only 444 is a Handi-Rifle. It shoots very well, and I've gotten a 330 grain WFNGC up to almost 2100 fps out of it (with no ill effects) using H322. I'm impressed with the little rifle, but as pointed out above, its not a lever gun.

Apparently the Marlin 444 is reasonably popular in Europe in a lot of double rifles and drillings. A bit out of our league though.

I'd like to have one in a drilling or combo gun with 12 gauge barrels :drinks:

Cimeron offers a High wall clone in that caliber and C Sharps offers a high wall clone and their Model 1075 sharps in 444 but again they are not lever action repeaters but they are lever actions.

Beretta used to make a .444 double rifle worth about $7000 but discontinued it a few years ago. It was very nice!

I think remember a Rolling Block chambered for the 444?

Humm...A double rifle or rolling block would be real nice.
I will be keeping my eye open.
I thought I was supposed to save money when I started reloading?

My thought with the 444, was that I already cast for the 44mag it should be a fairly easy transfer up to the 444.
I had thought about the 357 MAX,...just dont know yet.

Navy Arms was selling Rollingblocks back in the early to mid 70's in one or two configurations . And I know atleast one configuration was available in 444 or atleast thats what it said in the "Shooters Bible" back then !

Just a quick statement on the Winchester Big Bore 444. This gun was designed to shoot the higher pressure 375, 356 and 307 Winchester ctgs. Men have used the Big Bore frame to hot rod the 444. Some pretty amazing velocities on some fairly heavy metal.

You are right about the ease of stepping froom a 44 Mag to the 444. That is the very reason I picked up my 444 back in the 1990s. I'm sure that I won't have a "hunting" need for this big a gun. But I would need a very - very good offer to let it go. It's just too much BIG fun. Keep writin' I'm learnin'. Helice

The Big Bore Wonchesters in 444 were popular with weirdos like us because they had a 1 in 20" twist apparently. They sold out here with black composite stocks (maybe walnut as well, I don't know). I have been on the lookout for one for awhile, but in reality my 444 is a recent one, has nice big checkering on nice big timber and also has a Ballard Rifles 1 in 20" twist, so that will do me nicely at this stage.

I picked up a newer model with the cross bolt safety and angle eject. The paper work with it says it has a 1 in 38 twist. I only push a 300 LBT WFN GC so the slow twist doesn't seem to matter. Gun shoots better than I do. Helice:???:
