I have the same revolver. Those factory grips will have you hurting in no time. I put a set of Houge grips on mine and the difference was day and night. 370gr at 1450fps isnt to bad out of it now. Looking forward to what you come up with it, your cast boolit rifle groups are always really nice.

Doug :

Interesting you'd say that......I have a set of the Hogue's with the Sorbothane insert in my Midway's " Shopping Cart " right now. I'm just waiting on something else that I might could use to " round - out " the shipping and make the order worthwhile.( I hate to pay their silly minimum fee for 1 item )

I'll definitely change the factory grip over to the Hogue's , although I'll probably be shooting an awful lot of 45 Long Colts in this one.

Thanks,

Ben

Me getting one of those half a year ago was the reason why I joined this forum.

Be sure to use hot primers when loading for it!

Those shoot great but it has to be the ugliest finish ever applied to a revolver.

I'd already own one if they came in natural stainless.

I got one and absolutely love it. +1 for the Hogue grips. Try the wilson combat spring kit. Good luck

I put the Wilson Combat spring kit in mine, and 2 to 3 out of every cylinder full would miss fire. The main spring that comes with the kit is not strong enough to set off a magnum small rifle primer. Had no problem with it with 45 Colt. But it's not a good feeling when a 454 casull round misfires. All you can think is, "Is it going to go off when it try to get it out of the cyclinder." The houge grips are great. If you are worried about trigger pull. You can or you can have a gunsmith polish the trigger and sear. You could also put some Flitz metal polish or the such on the trigger and sear and it will marry the trigger and the sear.

im not much on the looks of them either but my buddy has a 480 and a 454 and there both extreamly accurate guns. His 454 is probably the most accurate out of the box handgun ive ever shot. Ive watched him shoot one inch 100 yards 6 shot groups with that gun. It isnt ever bolt action rifle that will do that well

I have yet to shoot a .454 Casull out of mine. But I've shot a couple thousand .45 Long Colts out of it. Just a great piece of machinery, will shoot anything accurately, it seems. Sometimes I think it'd hit bullseyes using actual bird feathers as bullets!

Hmm...I've always liked the look of it. It's got this cool, super-tough-guy, industrial-grade/modern look to it that just appeals to me. The S&W's look like Swiss timepieces, and they're elegantly beautiful. The SRH, on the other hand, says, "Yeah, I'm a ****** brute...whatcha gonna do 'bout it?" I like that. :-)

My 454 and 480 SRH's were both very accurate right out of the box. Very easy to load for.
Good luck with yours.
