I am sure it has been asked but...what loads are you using for your .625 SW's. Just purchased one yesterday and am curious. Mainly OAL with a cast RN 200 grain. I am planning on using Unique but am open to suggestions. I just purchased one of Miha's 452 HP molds. Just wondering if anyone else is using this mold in there 625..Thanks in advance

I use a lot of 200 gr. SWC bullets with 6 grains of 231 in two 625's. I have used the Lee 200 gr. round nose with that same load of powder and had good results.

I have a 25-5 and the best bullet I have ever fired from this revolver is the 255 gr Keith cast from the NOE 454424. Range lead + 2.5% tin.

Noe has a couple for sale now in the vendors section.

Get full moon clips...RANCH PRODUCTS in Malinta OH are the least expensive, but they are hard to contact. I paid about $30, including S&H, for 100; beats the h*** out of $1 each from other vendors! LaPrade in TN used to advertise at a similar price.

If you're going to load target, take a look at NOE's 45 full wadcutter mould in 3 different weights. (I ordered a 5 cavity at 250.) After playing with 44 wadcutters in 200 and 250 grain weights, I couldn't resist trying the 45.

My 625-2s in 3 and 5 inch got a lot of H&G#68 back in the late 80s and early 90s. I used a "major power factor" load of WW231.

A 625 in 45 ACP is one of the best...and least known...choices in a general purpose handgun. Not enough power for silhouette or hunting, but great for everything else I need a revolver for.

EDK,

I guess those four Texas white tails that I've killed with my 4" 625 (with one shot each) in the past two years didn't know the 625 wasn't powerful enough for hunting! You can get a 255 Keith SWC to 875-900 with the gun and it kills the snot out of anything you want in the lower 48. John Linebaugh wrote an article that turned me on to the concept of the 900 fps .45 255 SWC as an under-100 yard hunting round and it works extemely well.

Is your 625 a 45 Colt or a 45 ACP? In 45 Colt I like a 255 (or thereabouts) Keith over 8.5 of Unique. In 45 ACP I suggest you get some Auto Rim brass and compare accuracy to ACP brass in clips. You might be suprised at the difference.

376Steyr,

Mine is a .45 ACP and I do use the Starline .45 Auto Rim brass in the gun. It makes lots of difference as you indicated.

Gents, Like me, my Smith 25-2 is getting on in years- I purchased it new in a Stockton, CA pawnshop back in the early '80s--
Early on, I found it had a sweet-spot at 6.5gr Unique in AR cases with either the RCBS or Lyman 200gr SWC. 25yd groups at 1.5", and 50yds at 3-4 inches with iron sights, old eyes, OFFHAND. I probably would need a sandbag rest to do that again today, but the gun/load will do it all day, every day-
This is my favorite handgun ground-squirrel load-- don't laugh-- I've done it in front of witnesses at 60yds!!!
I'm working on getting my Smith 44Spec to shoot this well, but it is a big challenge!
Can't beat the 45AR for pure accuracy, and it's no slouch in the power dept either!!!
