I'm trying to clean some shells that have somekind of coating on them.
I think it's laquer paint.
I've had them in the vibrator.
I soaked them in acetone then vibrated.
I soaked in paint thinner then vibrated.
I've even tried vibrating them in red granite sand blasting medium.
It's kind of coming off on the edges.
Anyone have any suggestions????

Good morning
Are these brass reloadable cases ?
Paint stripper would be my next step IF this was that high priority.

abunaitoo,
You don't mention the headstamp. I'll bet they are Wolf. Cases are steel and are not reloadable, even if they are Boxer primed.

I am assuming 5.7X28 brass if it isn't steel i.e. Wolf ammo

This coating is on the brass to assist with feeding/cycling of the bullets I hear. I don't know how to take it off and would be interested to see if the coating is really needed or not.

Sorry, should have posted what kind of shells.
It is those tiny 5.7x28 shells.
Got a bunch of them and wanted to clean them up.
Big mistake.
About half of the coating came off.
Now they look like when your skin peels after sunburn.
I would have thought acetone would have made it soft enough to be vibrated off.
Didn't work.
This coating is tuff.

Hello Gents

Here is the way to clean 5.7x28mm brass :)

The important thing to keep in mind is not to remove the coating on the brass.

When cleaning 5.7x28 brass it's best to use a mix of 1 part Simple Green to 3 parts water. Wet tumble for about 5 minutes, rinse and air dry. Oven if you in a hurry but not hotter then 175

Just wash that 5.7x28 in warm soapy water, use Dawn liquid dish detergent and then dry the casings in a low heat source... DON'T remove the clear coating from the brass, the coating on the cases is there help with the functioning of the weapon
