Will the 339-190 Ranch Dog bullet as manufactured by NOE cycle thru a Marlin 94 when seated to the crimp groove in 357 brass?

Beerd, I think that Ranch Dogs boolits were designed with Marlins in mind. You might be able to send him a PM because he posts on this forum.

Here is his original (or new??) 357-190 boolit drawing. The distance from the base to the crimp groove (.386), and the distance from the groove to the nose (.380) is the same, so the NOE boolit should work in the Marlin. The only thing that doesn't make sense is that NOE gets 190 grains with a hollow point, and RD gets 190 grains without, and both dimensions are close to the same.

Picked up this mold from Al just yesterday and hurried home to cast some boolits.
I'll weight them and load some dummies later today to check function but my .357 Marlin has a modified carrier so OAL may be different on others rifles.
Maybe if the weekend weather ever straightens up I'll start workin up some loads...[smilie=w:

I have thought you needed a nose of .300" or shorter to function 357 mag through a Marlin .

I think this 190 grain bullet is a 35 REM design for the 336 Marlin.

After using the TLC 432 265 from RANCH DOG, I was really hot to use this boolit in my MARLIN cowboy rifles in 357 brass. It didn't feed in any of my three unaltered guns in 357 brass AND since it's only a 2 cavity mould to boot, I put it away. I didn't try it in 38 special brass, but reports say it will...and is very accurate. I wish it could be tweaked for 357 brass and in a 5 or 6 cavity...There's a lot of 357 MARLIN rifles that need a design like this....Michael (Ranch Dog) is a talented boolit designer, shooter, and all around good guy.

Get the NOE 360 180 WFN in a five cavity....I got 4 plain base and 1 gas check...the price of gas checks is ridiculous and I don't shoot that many high velocity loads. The design is excellent and the workmanship is too. I've got a PB version of the 44 265 and a 45 full wadcutter paid for and awaiting delivery from NOE....and a 360/200 semi wadcutter to be paid for in the near future.

Mostly correct but the carrier of the 38/357 1894 can be cut back to allow longer OAL. Mine from the factory would feed some bullets with longer noses and then I cut the cartridge stop back to get a little more. If they dont fit there is always .38 cases.
I like heavy for caliber boolits, just funny that way. I also have a line on a 336 in 35 if I can ever scrape the $$ together.

<edit>Forgot to add there is always cutting back the .357 cases just a tad too.
I seperate and use nickle cases in .357 to denote lever only loads so I could trim them back a tad if I come up short.
I even have a couple thou left in the cartridge stop I can take out. One way or another the Marlin will be eating these if the chamber will take it which I think it will.

EDK is correct as far as unaltered guns go. The nose is too long for either of my .357's. I think you need a .35" or less nose. I believe that boolit was designed with the .35 Remington in mind. The NOE 180 RF he mentions feeds great in my .357 Marlin guns. Nose length is right at .35" on the NOE boolit by my measurements.

I have found that a .325 is about max (modified carrier) and you have to work the lever pretty hard to always feed. .320 is better and a 300 feeds like butter.

Crud, I was talking about the 180 and making comparison to the length on the 190.
Just seated a tester out to an imaginary .380 nose and it's a no go.
Could try crimping up past the crimp groove, think I'll stick with the 180.

How does one go about getting a 180 from NOE? Were they on a group buy or can you just order one. Does NOE have a website ?

look under the vendor sponsor section and then look for the thread Moulds for sale on hand by NOE.
