I was airborne over Cambodia, thinking I was a two-digit midget when the radio said, "RTB. You're done. You DEROS tomorrow."

I spent the evening furiously packing and getting thoroughly sloshed at my honorary Green Beret induction.

I learned years later that two weeks after I left, our camp was honored by a visit from Martha Raye. Missing a meeting with that wonderful woman is the ONLY thing I regret about leaving early.
