Hi Guys,

Outers Foul Out System.
Outers is getting crazy with there prices for replacement chemicals.

Is anyone out there making there own Lead Out replacement?

Thanks,
Vic

I've always used janitorial strength clear ammonia when using the DC voltage trick to remove copper deposits. I'm not sure if that's the right stuff for lead or not. There are a few different things that people use.

I think that this has been discussed before. You might try using the search function.

Electrolytic cleaning always seemed a little harsh to me. I only use it when I have to deal with extreme fouling, like when I purchase a milsurp rifle that hasn't been properly cleaned in over 30 years.

What works for copper will NOT work for lead, and vice versa. Considering that some homemade substitute might ruin your gun, and also that a pint of the genuine stuff would probably clean a hundred barrels, is the price out of line? I don't think so.

The Copper stuff is Copper acetate.. the lead stuff is Lead Acetate.. I've actually gotten some lead fouling out with the copper stuff, just not vice versa.. I bought each chemical long ago and still have nearly a gallon of the copper stuff.. I haven't used much in all the years simply because I just don't shoot a lot of jacketed stuff.

This is the stuff in crystal form. I have absolutely no idea how to use it.

Likely add distilled water to whatever concentration needed.. could probably have a lab analyze the lead acetate stuff from outers to get the proper mix.. I really don't use it very often but it's a lifesaver when working with an unknown alloy that leads up the bore and I don't want to scrub it.. I still have most of the quart of Lead out that I bought probably 15 years ago.. I just don't use a lot of either.

The MSDS shows it contains Lead Acetate and Ammonium Acetate, however there are no concentrations. Here is the link to the materials sheet: http://web.mit.edu/marketa/www/MSDS915-Lead%20Out%20Plus%2007-01-07.pdf
